Video Ads for Vacation Destinations
Green Screen Video Lesson Using Adobe Premiere Elements

This lesson is designed to introduce students to using a green screen with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 software. It also gives students practice in persuasive speaking.
Requirements: You need a green screen, at least one computer with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 software installed, a video camera, and Internet access to be able to view the tutorials.
Lesson plan order of events:
- The instructor explains the end goal of producing persuasive video ads in which students persuade viewers to visit a certain location on their next vacation. The vacation destinations can b e related to other curriculum (such as Egypt when studying about the pyramids, etc.) but do not need to be.
- Each student will write the following on their own pieces of paper:
- Vacation Destination: (student just writes location)
- Persuasive words:
(These are the exact words that will be spoken. They can last a maximum of 15 seconds.)
- Background photo: (This is whatever type of photo that will be used in the background to replace the green of the greenscreen such as a “Eiffel Tower” or “pyramids of Egypt”, etc. )
- Students then share what they’ve written with classmates. Eventually the class will choose the top ones to actually produce. How many video ads are produced will depend on the number of computers with the software installed as well how much time is available. The number could range from 1 to 8 with groups of students working as teams. Some will be writers, on-camera talent, video camera operators, editors, etc.
- Teams of students meet and divide up responsibilities and plan for their performance in front of the video camera.
- Students rehearse in their individual groups and later in front of the class to get feedback.
- Students are filmed in front of the green screen.
- Student editors refine video footage replacing the green screen with new backgrounds. Tutorials at TheRisingSun.com explain how to use Adobe Premiere Elements 9 software with a green screen. The exact link is http://www.therisingsun.com/premiereelements/index.html
- When all the videos are done, they can be shared on the class projector and perhaps on the school website.
