Making a Holiday Greeting Card with Photoshop CS5

  1. First go to Google Images and search for a background picture. I searched for "Hawaii beach." When you find a photo you like, right click and choose Save Image As. Then save the photo on your desktop.

  2. Open Photoshop. Click File, Open, and browse to the photo you saved earlier and click Open.

  3. Create a new layer. (Layer, New Layer)

  4. Go back to Google Images and find something you want added to the new layer. I searched for "Big Bird." When you find a photo you like, right click on it and then choose Copy Image.

  5. Back in Photoshop, click Edit and Paste.

  6. Use the Move tool to move that picture to a place you think looks good.

  7. You may need to use the Free Transform tool if you need to change the size of that picture. Just click Edit at the top of the program and choose Free Transform. Then you can drag the edges to change the size and then click enter on your keyboard when done.

  8. Use the Eraser tool to erase parts of that photo you do not want. If the background is one color, you can use the Magic Eraser.

  9. Now you will add some text. Just click on the text tool (the big T). It will automatically create a new layer and you can add whatever text you'd like. I wrote "Happy Holidays" in mine.

  10. If you would like, you can add a stroke around the text. A stroke basically outlines the text. First select the text layer and then click the FX button at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose stroke. When you are happy with the stroke's color and size, click Okay.

  11. Save your greeting card picture as a JPEG. Just click on File, Save for Web, and then choose JPEG and SAVE. You can then upload it to Weblockers.
